Song inspiration can come from anywhere.

I can have a great day and write a song about it.  I can also have a terrible day and write a song about it.  The bottom line everything is an inspiration.  Good stuff is great but you need the bad stuff too.  One of my most popular songs was inspired by a car accident that happened to a teenager from the neighborhood I used to live in.  It was horrible.  It really impacted me and I didn't even know him. It got me to thinking about what I would say to my Boo if I suddenly died.  Depressing and sad but as everybody knows, not everything in life is sunshine.  My point is, notice everything around you.  Take it all in and channel it into your writing.  My song, When I'm Gone, touches on some deep emotions and it never would have been wrtten if I only used the good stuff.

Played guitar with some new friends last night. Had a great time.

I played guitar with a band I just met last night and had a great time. These guys were really good and they had great attitudes. It was serious enough to sound good but it was laid back enough to make it fun.  When making music is fun it makes the music better. If it becomes a hassle you can feel it in the tunes. So, if you're one of my musician friends, sit back, relax, and let the music flow.

No matter where I go: the club, the movies, a wedding, a rave, on tour, even at the store, there's alway a girl in a Little Black Dress.  She catches everyone's eye. Everybody knows she's fine.  She knows it too. You can't help but look and you just have to write a song about it.

Ricky Songs Sez getting exposure for your songs takes more than just uploading.

Getting exposure for your songs is tough sometimes.  You can be on Amazon, iTunes, and all of the other major sites but your not going to be noticed unless you promote yourself.  Live shows are one of the best ways to do this.  Whether your the house band or just making a guest appearance, friends tell friends what they like and those friends tell other friends,  you get the picture.  Make as many live appearances as you can.  Offer to do a guest spot on every news and music show in your area.  They won't all bite but the ones that do will wonders to widen your audience.  Call every radio station you can find.  Offer to do a live or on the phone interview.  Who cares if they don't know who you are.  They will when you're done.
